As the weather is becoming warmer (or should we say, less cold) spring cleaning is once again a trending topic. So much so, that people have already started building their cleansing checklists.

But, as a professional cleaning company, we know that spring cleaning isn’t as easy as it sounds. We know you need to pace yourself and not try to tackle everything at once. We also have a few cleaning tips and tricks to share with you, which makes it the ideal subject of this article. Here are 10+ cleaning tips that are especially powerful during this time of year.

Prepare Your Tools For The Spring Cleaning

use baking soda to clean your Oxford houseFirst of all, you need to be prepared. You want your cleaning solutions and tools to be ready for the tedious battle with grime, limescale, and dust. Of course, you can use your normal cleaning supplies but we also advise you to do the following as well:

  • Mix water and vinegar (75% water, 25% white vinegar) and use it to rinse your mop. All you need to do is sink the sweeper part in the solution to deodourise it and prepare it for rigorous cleaning.
  • It’s really annoying if you have to stop hovering in order to empty and clean your vacuum machine. That’s why we recommend doing it before the spring cleaning. And since there are many types of vacuums on the market, make sure to read the instructions for yours – some filters can be washed while others cannot.
  • Destroy 99% of the bacteria in your sponges with one easy trick – just wet them and put them in the microwave for a couple of minutes. The high temperature will kill all bacteria, leaving you with perfectly disinfected sponges. Don’t forget to rinse them afterwards!
  • Make your cleaning budget-friendly – use washable wipes instead of paper towels. Since you’re in for a lot of work with your spring cleaning, make sure you do it in an environmentally friendly way.

Kitchen Cleaning – What Would a Spring Cleaning Company Do?

This is probably the place you need to focus most on when doing spring cleaning. Just the mess that gathers around the cooker can be unbelievable. The main motivator for your hard efforts? This is where you prepare all your food. So, the hygiene in your kitchen should be impeccable. Make your kitchen immaculate again with these tips:

  • Run an empty cycle on your dishwasher with only one glass filled with baking soda. This will remove any bad smell and will make it sparkling clean again.
  • Use baking soda to clean the hobs. Just cover them with a layer of the powder and wipe them with a wet cloth.
  • Create a strong solution of water (50%), dish soap (25%), and baking soda (25%). Use a microfibre cloth to clean the sticky grime off the glasses, kitchen cabinets and other surfaces in the area.
  • If you own a rubbish disposal unit, make sure to clean it as well. The easiest way to do so is to freeze a few slices of lemon, orange, and water in an ice tray. When they are completely frozen, just toss them in the disposal.

Spring Cleaning The Living Room of Your Home

Since this is the room that you spend most of your time in, it’s only logical it’ll be messy. So decluttering should definitely be on the list for this area. To give it back its well-deserved shine you can:

  • Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and vacuum it an hour later. Granted, this will not make it look like new, but it will effectively remove dirt and odours. For stubborn stains, use a solution of white vinegar and water mixed in a 1:1 ratio to dab and clean the spots.
  • Want to remove dust from blinds in a lazy but effective way? Attach a small cleaning rag to a mixing spoon and use it to clean the blinds.
  • Clean your windows with an 8:1 water and white vinegar solution. For best results, do it on a cloudy day.

Spring Cleaning The Bathroom

cleaning detergent in an Oxford houseThe last and most dreadful task is cleaning the bathroom. But we swear, it’s the most rewarding thing of all. Just imagine yourself taking a well-deserved bath once you’re done. Here’s how you can tackle the space faster and easier:

  • Coat the surfaces with a 1:1 mixture of water and baking soda. Afterwards, spray it with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water. Leave it like that for a couple of minutes and scrub it off. For best results, do the same for the grouts and scrub them with an old toothbrush.
  • Use grapefruit slices to clean the bathtub. Slice one fruit in two pieces and gently scrub the surfaces with it. This will dissolve the grime and will scent the tub nicely.
  • Use a rubber band to fasten a plastic bag filled with white vinegar around the head of your shower. This will unclog it of any limescale so you can say goodbye to scrubbing.

Spring cleaning includes not only cleansing your home but also decluttering. That is why you should start the whole process by getting rid of unnecessary items. Once, you get the rooms free of things, it’ll be times easier to clean them and keep them organized and fresh afterwards.
